Rolled Grade 8

JTCDF

Standard ED Foil

  • Fine grain structure enhances fatigue ductility.
  • No columnar grains to compromise strength and ductility.
  • Wider widths than wrought foils for higher lamination productivity.
  • 12 µm (0.375 oz) thickness available.
  • Higher tensile strength improves handleability and reduces wrinkles, dents and warpage.
  • Meets or exceeds IPC-4562 Grade 8 specification.
  • Thinner foils for higher density circuits.
  • Excellent flexibility in both machine and cross machine direction in low cycle fatigue.
  • Overall lower laminate costs when compared to corresponding RA constructions.

Overview
Because of its unique electrodeposited structure with fine grain size, JTCDF is suitable for continuous dynamic flex applications. JTCDF does not contain columnar grains known to compromise and reduce flex life. This electrodeposited foil, therefore, exceeds fatigue life requirements of rolled Grade 8 foil. The substantially wider web of JTCDF (1,775 mm [70"]) compared to rolled foils (685 mm [27"]) improves productivity and output during lamination. The higher tensile strength of JTCDF (448 n/mm2 [65 KPSI]) compared to rolled foil (207 n/mm2 [30 KPSI]) reduces dents and improves handling during lamination and PCB processing. JTCDF can be manufactured in 12 µm (0.375 oz) thickness for etching of very fine lines.

Advantages

  • Wider Widths – The wider widths of JTCDF foils allow laminators and PCB fabricators to improve productivity and output of operations.
  • Better Handling – The higher tensile property of JTCDF foils reduces pits, dents and wrinkles during laminate and PCB processing.
  • Finer Lines and Spaces – The availability of JTCDF foil in 12 µm (0.375 oz) thickness facilitates the manufacture of finer line widths and spacings. Flex circuitry with 0.50 µm (0.002") lines and spaces can be made with JTCDF foil.
  • Isotropic Flex Properties – The isotropic flex properties provide for design and layout flexibility for low cycle fatigue applications.
  • Improved Flex Life – Equal or superior fatigue life (Nf) in dynamic roll fatigue applications.

Specifications
JTCDF exceeds requirements of rolled-wrought Grade 8. It is available in a variety of widths and foil thicknesses of 12 µm (0.375 oz), 18 µm (0.5 oz), 35 µm (1 oz), and 70 µm (2 oz). Typical properties of 18 µm (0.5 oz) and 35 µm (1 oz) foils are tabulated below:
